Rental Fee
Rental rates for Any Wear, Anywhere are as follows: 1 week rental for 5 tops and 3 bottoms set; 9000 yen (approx. $60 USD)(as of December 2024). You can rent 8 pieces for 1 week, which is far more reasonable than buying clothes.
If you want to rent for more than 1 week, the fee is +3,000 yen per week, so you can rent for 2 weeks for approx. 12,000 yen, and for 3 weeks for approx. 15,000 yen.
Since there is no daily fee system, you can return the rental items with plenty of time to spare even if your flight is suddenly cancelled, which is a nice advantage.

We were curious about the people behind the traveler's clothing rental service Any Wear, Anywhere, so we went for an interview.

Both of them are impressed by the service's potential to offer travelers the convenience of less baggage and the environmentally friendly approach of reducing fuel and CO2 emissions from airplanes by reducing the amount of cargo carried. They have been listening to users requests and comments , and have been improving their service every day.
How did you get started?
Any Wear, Anywhere was started as an initiative to realize ‘sustainable tourism’ in the midst of the changing global environment after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The idea was to help people enjoy traveling light if they could rent clothes to wear while on the road. Wouldn't reducing the amount of baggage reduce the amount of cargo carried and lead to a reduction in fuel and CO2 emissions from airplanes?
They started this service in July 2023 as a one-year demonstration experiment until the end of August 2024, and thankfully, many tourists visiting Japan were able to use it, and they saw the possibility of offering a new sense of value to travelers. The two decided to extend the period of the demonstration experiment until the end of March 2025.
The two are working daily to improve the service while listening to users' opinions in order to commercialize Any Wear, Anywhere as a service that will be loved by people around the world during the period of the demonstration experiment.

What did you expect when you started the service?
Any Wear, Anywhere is a service that aims to create ‘environmental value’ by reducing the amount of baggage carried, thereby reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of airplanes. At first, we assumed that the users of the service would be mainly those who were highly interested in eco-friendliness.
However, when we actually started providing the service, we found that while many people chose the service because of its environmental friendliness, there were also many who chose it because they were unsure of the best clothes for the Japanese climate and wanted to rent locally, or because they lived in a country where it was warm all year round and did not have winter clothes. It was surprising that many people chose this service because they wanted to enjoy their trip in clothes that match the Japanese climate, since they might not have a winter jacket based on the weather where they are from.
Many of them said they didn't want to buy clothes that they might not have a chance to wear after returning home. We found that this was a good opportunity to reduce the amount of discarded clothes, and it was also in line with our service's goal of environmentally friendly sustainable tourism, so we were happy to hear that.

On the day of the interview, a family traveling to Japan from overseas had lost their luggage at the airport and asked if they could rent clothes on short notice because they had no change of clothes, and they were about to ship them.
While there are cases where they are not able to respond immediately depending on the delivery destination and inventory in the warehouse, Miyu Yamauchi (left) and Keisuke Goto (right) are really happy, saying, "I am glad that we happened to be able to send the family's clothes in time this time," and "I hope it will make their trip to Japan as memorable as possible."
