The “EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (2025 World Expo)” is a big event that will be held in Osaka for the first time in 55 years since 1970.

The “EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan” will be held for 184 days from April 13 to October 13, 2025, in the Yumeshima district of Osaka City. The theme of the event is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”

With more and more topics about the Expo on TV and social media, many people may be starting to think, “Should I go?”

When planning a visit to the Expo, people often worry about how they’ll get there.

In fact, although the use of public transportation is recommended for the Osaka Expo, there are “Expo P&R (Park and Ride) parking lots” in Maishima, Amagasaki, and Sakai. You can visit the Expo by using a shuttle bus from these parking lots.

Please note that you must make an advance reservation by the day before, and the parking fee can be as high as 7,500 yen.

This article will provide information on parking lots available if you want to go to the “EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan” by car, important things to know when visiting by car, and other transportation access information.

Can you go to the Osaka Expo venue by car?

In principle: General visitors cannot enter the Expo venue by car

General visitors cannot drive directly into “Yumeshima”, the venue of the “EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan“.

Officially, to ease traffic congestion and consider the environment, “public transportation is recommended“.

“Persons with physical disabilities and wheelchair users” may use the parking lot adjacent to the venue

However, it has been announced that people who need special help with mobility, such as people with physical disabilities or people who use wheelchairs, can use the Yumeshima accessible parking lot next to the Expo venue (East Entrance Plaza). If you need help with mobility, you can enter the parking lot near the Expo venue by private car, but you must make a reservation in advance.

If you need a wheelchair, please check the “Barrier-Free Transportation Information (PDF)” and reserve accessible parking via the “Accessible Parking Reservation Site“.

You can also take a shuttle bus from the “Expo P&R (Park and Ride) parking lots” in Maishima, Amagasaki, and Sakai

There are not many parking lots around the Expo venue. They are usually for staff, shuttle buses, and people who need special parking for mobility reasons. But there are “Expo P&R (Park and Ride) parking lots” in Maishima, Amagasaki, and Sakai. They are a little distance from Yumeshima.

If you’re going to Expo, we recommend taking the “Chuo Subway Line” or the shuttle buses. You can’t drive there, so it’s best to take public transportation, like trains or buses. However, if you need to travel by car, you can use the “Expo P&R parking lots“.

Three Important Points to Note When Using the “Expo P&R Parking Lot”

If you plan to go to the “EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (2025 World Expo)” by private car, please pay attention to the following three points.

Point 1: Advance Reservation by the Day Before is Required

A key point to know about the “Expo P&R (Park and Ride) Parking Lot” is that you must reserve a spot in advance. Remember this.

If you decide to go to the Expo on the day of the event, or if you encounter a problem and cannot use your reserved parking lot, you will not be able to use the parking lot in an emergency. Please think about how you will use it.

Point 2: Shuttle Bus Reservation is Also Required, and There Are Entry Time Restrictions

When using the “Expo P&R (Park and Ride) Parking Lot“, you need to park your car in the designated lot and then take the shuttle bus to the Expo venue.

When you reserve your parking space, you must also reserve your outbound P&R shuttle bus at the same time. You will reserve your entry time in 30-minute slots, so you need to arrive at the parking lot at the specified time.

For example, you cannot set a flexible schedule such as “adjusting the time to go to the Expo depending on the children’s mood or the weather on the day.”

After you reserve and pay for your parking, you will then be asked to reserve your return shuttle time. Keep in mind that, compared to using public transportation, your schedule will be more limited.

Point 3: There Are Three Parking Locations (Maishima, Amagasaki, Sakai)

Another important point is that there are three parking lot locations for the “Expo P&R (Park and Ride) Parking Lot“.

If you’re coming from outside Osaka Prefecture or don’t know the area, or even if you live in Osaka and don’t check in advance, you might confuse your reserved parking spot. For example, you might think you reserved the Sakai parking lot but actually reserved the Amagasaki lot.

Many people mistake the “Maishima Expo P&R Parking Lot” for the “Yumeshima Expo P&R Parking Lot” next to the venue. The official Osaka Expo transportation information also warns visitors about this, so please be careful.
