“How much is the senior rate for the Osaka Expo?” “Is there a senior discount?”
Do you have questions like that?
The “EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai Expo (2025 Japan International Exposition)” is finally here.
“EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai Expo,” which will be held for 184 days from April 13 to October 13, 2025, in the Yumeshima area of Osaka City, will be the first Expo held in Japan in 20 years since the “Aichi Expo” in 2005, so many people are probably interested.
In this article, we will tell you if there is a special price for people over 80 to see “EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai Expo.” We will also confirm if the rumor that it is free for those aged 80 and over is true.

There is no “senior rate” (senior discount) at the Osaka Expo
To put it simply,
There is no special price for older adults to get into “EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai Expo”.
The price depends on when you buy your ticket. If you buy your ticket before the Expo opens (until 4/12), it’s an “advance ticket“. If you buy your ticket after the Expo opens (4/13–10/13), it’s a “regular ticket”. There are also age-based categories: “Adult”, “Junior”, and “Child.” The fees differ depending on the category.
Since the categories of “Adult”, “Junior”, and “Child” are set as follows, seniors are included in the “Adult” category!
<Osaka Expo 2025 Admission Ticket Age Categories>
Adult | 18 years old and up |
Junior | 12 to 17 years old |
Child | 4 to 11 years old |
Children under the age of 3 who are not included in the above list may enter the Expo site “free of charge”.

Supplement: The reference date for age is “as of April 1, 2025”
For admission tickets to “EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai Expo”, the “reference date for age” is set as “as of April 1, 2025“.
The type of ticket you need is based on your age on April 1, 2025. So, even if you turn 17 on April 1 and have your birthday in July, and then turn 18 and visit the Expo in October, you can still get a “Youth” ticket.
According to the official FAQ for EXPO 2025, the age as of “April 1, 2025” is used as the standard. This is done to prevent people who have a birthday during the Expo period from being unable to use tickets they purchased in advance.
A. To prevent those with birthdays during the Expo period from becoming ineligible to use the pre-purchased tickets, we decided to use their age as of April 1, a generally accepted date in Japan for the new fiscal/academic year. (Source: EXPO 2025)
This may not be very relevant for adults, but if you are going to the Expo with children, it may be important, so please be aware.

Is it true that admission to the Osaka Expo is “free for those aged 80 and over”?
There are rumors on social media that “admission to the Osaka Expo is free for those aged 80 and over“, but currently, there is no information or guidance on how to apply for free tickets for people aged 80 and over.
Actually, the official information clearly states that there is no senior discount system. The image below shows this.

There’s a rumor going around that admission to the Osaka Expo is going to be free for people 80 and over. This is because when the reports about “EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai Expo” were made in the past, like in 2022, they included information that “while the ticket price was being adjusted from the originally planned 4,800 yen to 6,000 yen (about a 20% increase), they were also considering making admission free for children under 4 and seniors aged 80 and over.”
This report was from three years ago. Since then, people have spread a rumor that “initially, free admission for people aged 80 and over was being considered”.
The FAQ section of the official website says that Osaka Expo admission ticket prices may change depending on future social conditions, such as inflation. While it is not certain that admission will never be free for those aged 80 and over in the future, this is not very likely to happen.
Even people 80 and older must pay the “Adult” price, so please be careful.

Supplement: There is a “Special Discount Ticket”
While there is no “senior discount” or “senior rate” for admission tickets to “EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai Expo”, there is a “Special Discount Ticket” available for “those with a disability certificate and one accompanying person (caregiver)“.
